5

Happy Birthday Little Man!  Yes, today you are finally five!  You've been waiting all week for the day to arrive and here it is.  No longer are you a baby, not a toddler,  but a preschooler who becomes more independent each day.  So much has changed in last year....you are very much a do it yourself guy, anxious to prove that you can "do it all by myself."  You have become quite the social little guy building new friendships and strengthening old ones.  You are all about "making a friend."   You much prefer to play with someone as "tall as me" than hang with adults these days.   You're not afraid to share your opinions and you definitely have strong preferences, especially when it comes to your clothes.  Most days your outfit must include orange and it's a great day if you can find both an orange shirt and shorts to wear together.  The more orange the better!   You started school and seem to be flourishing!
You new friendships and school have brought on changes in your interests.  You enjoy playing on the computer, especially playing games.  You are starting to find interest in guns, swords, tranformers, bionicles and things that makes mommy cringe a bit.  There is a lot of poop and butt talk.  The rule in the house is that you can only talk about it in the bathroom.  So, as soon as you see me head to the bathroom, you are quick to follow and usually start some chant about  poopy butts which sends you into a fit of giggles.  Of course, the joy being that mommy can't tell you to stop because "mommy you said that we could talk about it in the bathroom" and you are quick to point out that you are following the rules.   Typical boy stuff that I'm not used and would probably like to keep you shielded from for just a bit longer...but time doesn't stand still and you are certainly growing up.  Speaking of growing..wow, are you getting tall!  It's really important to you to get big and tall like your dad, and you are constantly checking with me to see if you are growing.  By the look of you pants, you, most certainly are.

And while much has changed, many things still remain the same.  You are still the sweet natured little boy who loves to snuggle and be read to.  For no reason, you will often stop what you are doing to come over and hug me and tell me that you love me.  Oh, how that makes my heart swell!  You still love to play with trains and trucks, while Curious George is still a favorite cartoon.  Your love of water has increased and I suspect it won't be long before you are swimming.  You still love to be outside playing in the dirt and sand.  You are a whirlwind of activity, never slowing down for long.  You still love books and at bedtime you are always asking for "just one more book."  You still love to be held and will come sit in my lap to watch TV at the beginning and end of our day.  I know that won't last forever but I sure hope that it last at least one more year.   It the best part of my day!

I'm so proud of the boy that you are growing up to be and look forward to the year ahead.  I also always try to spend a moment of this day to look back and remember the day you were born, so that I never take for granted the time that I have with you.   You bring me so much joy. You will always be my favorite and my best!

We sure had a GREAT time celebrating your birthday party yesterday!  (which can be my only excuse for getting very few pictures of it)   I think that we had 50 people here yesterday!  (we are so lucky to have so many wonderful friends)  I have never seen you have so much fun in one day.  You were in the water, be it the pool or water slide for 7 hours yesterday.  The only break you took was to have a bite of cake and then it was right back outside.  As the day ended and we put you in the tub, the fun still kept going.  You buddies Aiden and Austin joined you for a bubble bath in mommy's big bathtub.  There was still a bunch of giggling and laughter going on.  You know it's a good party, when a five year old goes to bed without ever asking about the presents on the table because he's having to much fun to stop and open them.

Happy Birthday Sweet Boy!

Oh, the train cake.  I had a grand plan to make a big train cake with individual cars for each child.  Didn't quite turn out the way I had planned and I still had 30 small train cakes to do something with.  So, we turned it into a party activity and each of you decorated your own cake.  It was crazy messy and everyone had a blast!

Having so much fun!

You picked out this boat for the party and it was always filled with kids!
