Just when I was wondering what we were going to do with our afternoon, the neighborhood went up in smoke...literally. I kept hearing these helicopters flying fairly low over the house, which in itself is not that unusual but not quite this many, this often. I go out front to see a helitanker flying overhead, rush to the back to see red smoke billowing up from the hill behind me. Call my friends up the hill to ask where the fire is and they inform me that my neighborhood has been partly evacuated and the fire is heading up towards La Cresta. Now, here is the sign that you have lived in California way to long....I get off the phone and say "John Will get dressed, lets go check out the fire!! Want to watch the helitankers?" We only have to drive 3 blocks to watch the fire..turns out they evacuated just blocks 3 short of our house and we were so busy building train tracks that we were oblivious to the fire. GOODNESS!
Good news is that it is pretty much contained. They don't waste anytime around here and they had a ton of air support. The helitankers were filling up in the ponds on the golf course that weaves through our neighborhood, so we go to seem them fill up as well as drop on the fire. All made for a pretty exciting afternoon and a very excited 5 year old.
