Dillon Beach
Dillon Beach is a tiny town, with just a little tiny general store. The beach is quiet, located in a bay with calm waves and never more than a dozen people on it while we were there.
I'm not sure that I have words to describe how wonderful Dillon Beach was. It was a fantastic find and our big splurge for the trip. We found this fabulous house to rent with views of the ocean and just a 10 minute walk, at a toddler's pace, to the beach. The house was cozy, adorable, quaint, beautiful...basically perfect. We had an ocean view from all the back windows and we were close enough that you could hear the waves crashing when you opened the windows. The back yard had a fire pit and huge hot tub, big enough for John Will to swim in. We spent each evening on the beach until it pitch dark and then we returned to the house to relax in the hot tub and fall asleep to the ocean sounds, in what could possibly have been the most comfy bed I've ever slept in.
The town's beach is dog friendly, which couldn't have pleased John Will more. He just loved running in the waves, chasing after the dogs. Everyone we met there was wonderful and very willing to let John William take over the ball throwing, so he could interact with his newest four legged friends.
We picked up a little red shovel at a beach store and we quickly got our $5 worth out of it. He spent hours scooping sand, digging holes, building walls, and creating castles. He was either quiet with concentration, trying to dig that hole a little deeper or screaming and giggling with delight as he jumped in and out of his huge holes or was running from the waves. It was just pure delight to watch him have so much fun.
